The coordinator of the Dickinson Museum Center also serves as Historic Preservationist for the City of Dickinson.
The Historic Preservationist serves as staff liason to the Historic Preservation Commission for the city. The Dickinson Historic Preservation Commission meets the third Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. (Mountain Time). Meetings are held in the Osborn Room at the Dickinson Museum Center/Joachim Museum. All HPC meetings are open to the public. Learn more about the Historic Preservation Commission.
Federal agencies and their delegates that are required to consult with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) about potential impacts that federal projects may have on historic properties listed in or determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NPS), are required by city ordinance to notify and consult with the Dickinson Historic Preservation Commission when the project falls within Dickinson city limits. To do so, submit the Section 106 checklist form for review to the Historic Preservationist at the Dickinson Museum Center.
The Historic Preservationist also helps promote Dickinson's Renaissance Zone program. The Renaissance Zone program is a tool to spur development in downtown Dickinson, and is not necessarily tied to preservation in general. It can include rehabilitation of buildings, and even new construction. Learn more about the Dickinson Renaissance Zone.
