Tours of the park are available, free of charge, from June to mid-August.
Prairie Outpost Park is located on twelve-acres of city property near Interstate 94. Groundbreaking was held May 30, 1975. Iit was officially designated a Bicentennial Project of Dickinson and Stark County. The park is owned and maintained by the city of Dickinson, with financial support from various sources, including donations, grants, and fundraisers, as well as support from both the Dickinson City government and the Stark County government. The Stark County Historical society maintains artifacts and exhibits in the Pioneer Machinery building, and local ethnic groups help care for and maintain the German-Russian Stone House, the Czech Town Hall, and the Scandinavian Stubbar.

Pioneer Machinery Building
The Pioneer Machinery Building features permanent exhibits interpreting early agriculture and ranching methods utilized in the area. Some of the current items on display include horse-drawn pieces of machinery, a miniature farm, household items, an arrowhead collection, and a Teddy Roosevelt Diorama.
*This building is accessible for visitors with disabilities, and includes a unisex, accessible rest room.
