Ridgeway Church

church

Ridgeway Lutheran Church was built in 1915, about fifteen miles north of Taylor, North Dakota.  The Peoples Society of the Ridgeway Lutheran Church was organized in 1911, meeting in local homes the first few years.  After the building of the church had begun, the congregation re-organized as the Ridgeway Congregation.  In 1934 the congregation built a basement along side the church and moved the building over onto its new foundation.

The alter, railings, and pulpit were gifts from the Lincoln Congregation of Ridgeway, Iowa, where many of the immigrants had previously lived.  The alter painting was damaged after the church had been moved to this site, but was restored by local artists.  The organ, pews, bible, and chandelier are all original.  Most of the furnishings are authentic and original to the building; however, St. Patrick’s Church of Dickinson donated the two high-backed chairs.  One is from the early church of 1905, the other (red velvet, upholstered chair) was used only when the bishop came for services.

The congregation closed the church in 1976.  The Ridgeway Cemetery Association later donated the church to the Stark County Historical Society, and the building was moved to the park in 1981. Weddings and other ceremonies are still held in the building throughout the year.
