Heirloom Gardening

Do you have an interest in gardening? Does the history of plants, vegetables, and flowers fascinate you? We are looking for volunteers for a gardening/landscaping committee at the Dickinson Museum Center. Becoming a volunteer would involve a few hours of outdoor work at the museum each month, but would also allow you to participate in special events and educational opportunities at the museum. Please contact Danielle at the museum center for more information (701-456-6225 or info@dickinsonmuseumcenter.org).

Hiatus

We have not posted to the blog for awhile due to an extremely busy schedule. In the last month alone, I've traveled more than 5,000 miles on museum related business. Here are some of the other things we've been up to in the last few weeks--You can see that we are incredibly busy here at the museum, so please be patient with us as we make changes to our blog and website!

  • Visited the Charles Russell museum in Great Falls, Montana, to get information on their art auctions and other fundraisers. Visited several other museums for ideas on events and exhibits while I was there. Got some fantastic ideas for interactive exhibits from the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and the First Peoples Buffalo Jump Site.
  • Attended a National Trust workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico that focused on board/staff relations and fundraising (fantastic workshop).
  • Attended the Museums in North Dakota annual meeting in Devils Lake.
  • Met with First Lady Laura Bush at the Sim’s Church (east of Glen Ullen, north of Almont). She was very nice.
  • Attended a Gallery/Studio crawl in Fargo to see how they run their event. Visited the Maple River Winery in Casselton about potential fundraising and gift store ideas.
  • Made butter at the Dickinson Public High School. Great experience, the kids really seemed to enjoy it.
  • Will be giving a presentation at the Strom Center on October 14th on Heritage Tourism.
  • Will be at another Hutmacher work session on October 18th. I’m looking for additional volunteers--if you’re interested in this please let me know. We have been having a lot of fun with this project, and I’ve really enjoyed the work.
  • Planning a pumpkin carving contest at the museum for October 25th—all ages event with children’s and adult catagories.
  • Planning a possible Christmas event.
