There are several different organizations that together make up the Dickinson Museum Center including: the Joachim Regional Museum, Prairie Outpost Park, and the Pioneer Machinery building (Stark County Historical Society).
Main Building (Joachim Regional Museum) - The Joachim museum includes art and history exhibits of regional significance, features the Osborn Reading and Research Room, and has the main offices of museum staff. It is managed by the Southwest North Dakota Museum Foundation and an Executive Director, Danielle Stuckle. The SWND Museum Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They meet the third Wednesday of every month.
Prairie Outpost Park - Five historic and six reproduction buildings are located in the park east of the museum. The new Heritage Pavilion picnic shelter is located in the park, and available to rent for private events. The church is also available to rent for weddings, funerals, special services, and other events. Free tours are available from Memorial Day until mid-August. Contact the Dickinson Museum Center at 701-456-6225 or info@dickinsonmuseumcenter.org for more information. Several other groups manage buildings and/or host events in the park throughout the year inlcuding Czech, Scandinavian, and Germans from Russia heritage organizations.
Historic Preservation Commission - The director of the Dickinson Museum Center also serves as Historic Preservationist for the city of Dickinson. The Historic Preservationist serves as staff liason to the Historic Preservation Commission for the city, and manages the Renaissance Zone program for the city. The Renaissance Zone program is a tool to spur development in downtown Dickinson, and is not necessarily tied to preservation in general. It can include rehabilitation of buildings, and even new construction. The Historic Preservation Commission meets the third Thursday of each month.
